Country Woman Paints

Resting in a warm pool of late November sunlight, it is best to pay attention to each moment. I am not good at this practice and many moments pass without my notice.

I watch light break in crystal prisms as illusive moments of time. Reflections pierce the darkest night and it’s softness fades to dawn.

To live content with small means;
to seek elegance rather than luxury, and refinement rather than fashion;
to be worthy, not respectable, and wealthy, not rich;
to listen to stars and birds, babes and sages, with open heart; to study hard;
to think quietly, act frankly, talk gently, await occasions, hurry never;
in a word, to let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious, grow up through the common ~ this is my symphony.

  2. I adore that quote! Today I paused during raking leaves and just studied/enjoyed the late sun shining through our naked trees. It was wonderful… and didn’t cost a dime!

      and many blessings to you too. it is good to pause and look up once in awhile… and look down too. 🙂

      1. I agree about looking down, too – I spotted a brilliant green caterpillar in my leaf pile today…

    What beautiful words from William Henry Channing.
    What gorgeous words from you…….being present in the moment, catching even that much–is spiritual, indeed. And for a moment I was there with you.
    I discipline myself to make time for those moments–and miss so many more in the hurry/scurry of it all because I’ve somehow not figured out how to LIVE like that.
    I need lessons, no doubt…..

    It’s a good thing I happened here, this morning. For multiple reasons.
    I shall celebrate for your ‘good-tired’….short people leave me with that joyfilled tiredness that I’d be hard pressed to wish away. That’s the kinda stuff I want to wear into my days. LOL Even if the mere thought of having to do it daily would send me screaming and running for the hills.
    G-d bless the Nana’s who DO! 😉

    Enjoy ’em while ya got ’em!!

    1. mel, this is one of my favorite quotes… i am far from it but i have aspirations anyway……i have found that worrying over what i miss/missed is about as productive as not paying any attention at all so have given up that practice, at least for the next few moments!! 😉

      my short people went home yesterday with many tears that broke my own heart whilst i was trying to remain stoic and brave. in the end, i decided it was best to be one of them and join the fun, if you know what i mean. why not be who i am in all my fullest potential and a shining example you will not die if a few tears hit your cheeks?? as if i wouldn’t cry anyway, i am a crybaby from way way back.

      and if i had them every day, i would have already run for the hills, screaming all the way. but to have them a bit more often than i do would be lovely indeed.
