Summer is Now + Chickens?

Red & blue salvias

Red + blue salvias

Yes… a little bit wild and crazy, these salvias.
We all need a little wild with a little crazy.
Take it from me.

I’ve only been waiting a couple of decades to get a few chickens!

I do NOT want a rooster! Hens I do want.

Not only will I be able to eat whatever offerings they might give me, but more importantly, in fact VERY IMPORTANTLY, they’ll love all the bugs{ticks} I offer them!

Win Win!

He who wants milk should not sit himself in the middle of a pasture waiting for a cow to back up to him.

  1. Good to see you – okay I’m all ready for your new venture with Hens! I can only imagine the great stories and photographs that will be coming up in future posts. Take care my friend, the fun is just starting ~

  2. Linda, you’ll enjoy the antics of the chickens as you get to know them and see their different personalities. I’m not a fan of roosters, although Silky roosters are sweet. It’s been ten years since we’ve had chickens back at our old place–lots of good memories. Enjoy.
    Blessings ~ Wendy

    • Hi Wendy! Yes, i think we’ll enjoy them and am sort of holding my breath with sophie beagle but think she’ll be nice after a reprimand or 50. 😉

  3. I love it!!!! Chickens rock and collecting their gifts is sweet. Watch out for the hens that peck. Enjoy!

    • Hens pecking me does freak me out but i really need/want the eggs and we only plan on a couple, three at most. Fingers crossed! 😉

      • My Grandmother collected eggs every day. She had a chucked full hen house and she just went through the nests confronting the hens like she had every perfect right to do that. There was a lot of commotion but she got her eggs without being pecked. Years of practice I supose. Much luck.

  4. Do you know how much I love this post and the pretty ladies shown off (you included…) – and the Lady of ladies is the one on the chair!

  5. You’ve reminded me of one of my favorite stories:

A pair of very old ladies visited a poultry dealer to make an order for chickens.
“What kind of chickens are you interested in ladies?”
“Well, we really don’t mind as long as they’re healthy.”
“How many chickens would you like to order?”
“We’ve talked this over and have decided we want twenty-five hens and twenty-five roosters.”
“Ladies, don’t you know that twenty-five hens only need one rooster to keep them happy?”
“We’ve talked about that too. You see we’re spinsters and we know what it’s like to be lonely.”

    • Hah, i never thought of it like that, dear Susan! You are the story teller. 😉 I’m just hoping that i get a couple. I didn’t want to raise up baby chicks but am finding it hard to find them at the age we want. Fingers crossed as we’re getting into august since time is flying by… xoxox
